Bombtrack: SebastiAn - Dog

After a quiet weekend (scratching in the garden, watching a couple of movies with a glass of wine or scotch), the return to the working week came with a blast. After reading Phantom's review of the new Ed Banger Compilation (Vol 3), my attention was drawn by the new SebastiAn-track, 'Dog' and... oh my!!! Talking about a bomb: the typical SebastiAn-sound mixed with a heavy metal-riff and screams, I just love it! Probably soon in a mixset near you ;) Listen and download the original and the Choreo-edit below!

Bombtrack: MSTRKRFT - VUVUVU

As heard last Saturday during The Bloody Beetroots-set: the brand new MSTRKRFT-track 'VUVUVU'! (you can have a taste of it at the end of the Beetroots-vid I posted in my Polsslag-report). The rumor is out that a second album of MSTRKRFT is coming up this year (hallelujah!), and probably this other new track, 'Bounce', will be on it as well, although a bit atypical for the Canadian duo.
And for the heck of it: let's throw in two great remixes too: Kylie's 'Wow' and Jesse Mc Cartney's 'Leavin''. Watch and download below: enjoy!

Wow! This guy cut the new Kylie-clip in 250 pieces and edited it to match the MSTRKRFT-remix:

Pukkelpop 2008 line-up: first names

My ears are still buzzing from Polsslag, and there they are: the first load of names for Pukkelpop. You can find (if you have some time ;)) all names on the official site, below some highlights and acts I'll probably check out, if I'm in Belgium mid August, that is:

The Bloody Beetroots: oh yeah, I'd love to see a rerun of their Polsslag-performance in a packed Boiler Room.

Crookers: never seen them before, but heard a lot of good. Like their remixes, especially the AC/DC-remake.

Brodinski: loved him at Les Transardentes earlier this year, and will probably check him out next Saturday in Petrol, Antwerp. If so, report will follow ;)

Yuksek: live? Let's go! Maybe his pal Brodinski will join him on stage.

Dusty Kid: also live, love his 'The Cat', and curious about more.

Radioclit: only know 'Divine Gosa', which makes me bounce, so let's check them out too.

Tocadisco: let's check out that new album! And the great remixes.

Uffie & Feadz, DJ Mehdi, SebastiAn: are these the first names of an Ed Banger - night @ Pukkelpop? Let's pray it is... Oh, and SebastiAn: PLEASE bring some new records!

Miss Kittin & The Hacker, Simian Mobile Disco: for the sake of good live dance music.

The Cribs: one of last years revelations, according to a collegue one of the best albums of last year, so I'm pretty curious.

Danko Jones: if you look up rock 'n roll in the dictionary, these guys' picture is next to it.

Metallica: two fingers in the air, three beers in the other hand and bashing out that last bit of energy you have left after three long days...

Looking forward to it :)

Report: Polsslag, Hasselt

The goal of Polsslag Festival in Hasselt is to give a flavor of what's hot in music land, an indoor version of Pukkelpop but limited in space (4 rooms in stead of 8 stages), in time (1 day in stead of 3) and obviously with less big names (Metallica won't show up here, they'll be in Hasselt end of August). I wasn't fan of the line-up on the Main Stage and Marquee: a lot of unknown bands, The Breeders are lovely, but it has been 15 years when they were smoking hot. I've never heard of headliner Angels And Airwaves, the band of Blink 182 - singer Tom DeLonge, but I guess there's a reason they're playing top of the bill.

On the other hand, the Boiler and Dance Hall - line-ups were great. Not the hot, hot dance acts, but however some of my heroes were present (Erol, Boys Noize, MSTRKRFT) so this couldn't go wrong. A small overview of our 'parcours':

Bloody Beetroots: I knew them from a couple of very good remixes (Escape - Toxic Avenger is their best), and in the middle of the afternoon, they played the best set yesterday, pretty hard, a lot of variation, they really hit it off.

DJ Mehdi: the only representative of the Ed Banger - crew at Polsslag, and didn't impress me at all. Decent, but no more than that.

MSTRKRFT: really good set, heavy as usual, with some really great nu rave - tracks. They rule!

Dr Lektroluv: the most crowdy set of the day. The man with the green mask brought a brand new pumping set, including a reworked version of my all time favorite Walkman and a remix of the new Subs-single 'Papillon', the one I wrote about last week.

Boys Noize: a lot of people for the German DJ as well. I've seen him 3 or 4 times before, and he hardly changed his set, so the magic is a bit gone for me. His tracks and remixes still rocked the place however.

Alter Ego: I can be short about them: boring. So didn't stay longer than 10 minutes.

Erol Alkan: still my favorite DJ, played 3 tracks I know (and that must be a miracle), including Vitalic's 'Newman', Brodinski's 'Bad Runner' and Dusty Kid's 'The Cat'. We left after half an hour, since we were exhausted (with pain in my heart, but hey, I'm getting older, you know ;))

Overall, a satisfying first Polsslag-edition: really good sets of Bloody Beetroots, MSTRKRFT, Dr Lektroluv and Erol Alkan, lovely beautiful people, good vibrations, good beer (Grimbergen!), easy accessible stages and only 2 euros for parking (respect!). Only negative points could be the line-up: I expected more hot new acts in boiler and dance (why Carl Craig as headliner?) and maybe a big name in the main room? And I start feeling a bit old in there: a lot of kids who are half my age, and 12 hours of shaking is apparently the maximum I can handle these days :) But it was a nice day out in Hasselt, thanx to Phantom for the tickets!

You can find more videos on my YouTube - channel. Enjoy!

Bombtrack: The Subs - Papillon

We can't complain about good Belgian music, certainly not. One of those, our, precious diamants is The Subs. They've posted their brand new single 'Papillon' on their Netlog-profile, and oh my, it's a blast!  The single will be available as of end of June, and will contain remixes by Yuksek & Brodinski and Shinichi Osawa. 'Naked Jack' will be the second new track. Swellll, guys!!

Zebra - mania: Rave Grohl's contribution

It's been a party-less weekend... I planned to go to the Boys Noize Record Night in De Cinema in Antwerp last Friday, but an eye-infection got in the way (you don't want to go to a smokey, steaming elekto-party with that, believe me). Saturday night, Lektroluv-time in Petrol, Antwerp! Nope: no entry without presale-tickets, so I learned on my way from Spy to Antwerp. Off home with a mixtape playing at volume 50 in the car, so far my weekend...

Hey, is there a Red Zebra - revival going on? Phantom posted a great remix, Stephanoski Parisiani used it in a mixtape 2 days later... Well, we can't stay behind, right? So I blew the dust off a really old (must be 3 or 4 years) mashup I made. I only wanted to test how Missy Elliott would sound with a rock sound, 80's new wave classic 'I Can't Live In A Living Room' was the first up tempo track I encountered on my PC, and one thing lead to another...

Download the result below!

Report: SebastiAn @ Cafe Capital, Antwerpen

I have to admit: I'm a freakin' fan of SebastiAn. Ever since I discovered the still amazing 'Walkman' in one of Erol Alkan's podcasts. Even more since I've seen him at Dour Festival, Pukkelpop and Les Transardentes. So I couldn't wait to see him playing nearby, in a small club.
And yes, once again, he rocked the place! From Ed Banger-classics, over the finest pieces of rock to smashing gangsta-rap: the crowd went wild once more. Check the videos I shot with my mobile below!
